A plain-English guide

How This All Works.

Not sure what Google Analytics, SEO, keywords or tracked links actually mean? You're in the right place.

This page explains some of the tools and terms I use when helping clients with their websites, video content and online marketing. You don't need to know any of this before working with me. That's part of what I'm here to help with.

01 / Website tracking

Understanding Your Website

These tools help us see how people find your website and what happens when they visit.

What is Google Analytics 4 (GA4)?

Google Analytics 4 is a free tool from Google that helps you understand how people use your website.

It can show how many people visit, which pages they look at and whether they arrive through Google searches, social media, advertising or other websites.

Example: You post a video on LinkedIn. GA4 can help you see whether people visit your website from LinkedIn afterward.

Analytics is not a complete record of every visitor. Privacy settings, consent choices and tracking restrictions can affect the data.

What is Google Search Console?

Google Search Console is a free Google tool that helps you understand how your website appears in Google Search.

It can show which searches lead people to see your pages, how often people click through and whether Google has identified certain issues with your website.

Example: If you're a public speaking coach, Search Console might show that your website is appearing for searches about presentation coaching. That can help us decide which pages are worth improving.
What is a Website Audit?

A website audit is a review of your existing website to identify things that could be clearer, easier to use or more helpful to visitors.

I look at important pages, their headings, wording, titles, navigation and how clearly they explain what you offer.

Example: If someone lands on your homepage and can't quickly tell what you do or how to contact you, that's something worth improving.

The audit included in my monthly package is a focused review, not a complete technical rebuild of your website.

02 / Getting found online

Search & Visibility

This is about helping people discover your business when they're looking for something you offer.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. It means improving your website so search engines can better understand its pages and people can find relevant information.

That can involve clearer page titles, better headings, useful content, relevant search terms and a website that's easy to navigate.

Example: Instead of a page simply called "My Services," a consultant might benefit from a more descriptive page title that explains the service they actually provide.

SEO improvements can take time, and no one can guarantee a particular Google ranking.

What are Keywords and Keyword Research?

Keywords are the words and phrases people type into search engines when they're looking for information, products or services.

Keyword research means investigating those searches so we can better understand how potential customers describe what they need.

Example: Someone offering career coaching might discover that people search for "career change coach" or "help changing careers." Those phrases can inform how their services are described on their website.

The goal isn't to cram keywords into every sentence. It's to make your pages clear, relevant and useful.

03 / Measuring content

Tracking Where Visitors Come From

These tools help connect the content you're sharing with visits to your website.

04 / Video performance

Understanding Your Videos

Social platforms provide their own analytics to help us understand how viewers respond to your content.

You don't need a website to measure how your videos perform. Platforms like LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram provide their own analytics.

What is Watch Time?

Watch time tells us how much time people spend watching a video. Depending on the platform, we may be able to see total watch time or average watch time.

Example: If a 60-second video has an average watch time of 12 seconds, that may suggest people are leaving early. We can look at the opening and consider how to make it more engaging.
What is Engagement?

Engagement refers to the ways people interact with your content. Depending on the platform, this can include likes, comments, shares, saves and clicks.

Example: A video that gets fewer views but starts useful conversations with potential clients might be more valuable than one with lots of views and little meaningful interaction.
What is Audience Retention?

Audience retention helps show how well a video holds viewers' attention as it plays.

Some platforms provide a graph showing where viewers tend to stop watching.

Example: If most viewers leave during the first few seconds, we might try starting the next video with a stronger moment from the interview.

The available measurements differ between LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

05 / Optional advertising

Google & Meta Ads

Paid advertising is available separately from my two monthly packages. Campaign setup and management are quoted individually, and advertising spend is paid separately.

What are Meta Ads?

Meta Ads are paid advertisements that run across Facebook and Instagram.

They can help you reach people based on available audience targeting options, and can be used to promote content, website visits or other campaign goals.

Example: An author launching a new book might use an Instagram or Facebook campaign to introduce it to a relevant audience.

Advertising costs are separate from my fees for campaign planning and management.

Still Have Questions?

You don't need to become an expert in any of these tools. We can talk about what you're trying to achieve and figure out what would actually help.
